So you want to build a treehouse...

Our Treehouses are highly site-specific, meaning our designs are heavily influenced by the unique layout of the host trees and surrounding landscape forming a symbiotic relationship with modern architectural design elements. We work closely with you and a selection of sub-trades and professionals to manifest your vision while bringing our experience in innovative, one-of-a-kind, sustainable treehouse design and building practices to the process.

If you are interested in designing and building a custom treehouse with us please review the process below and check out our FAQ section here

Inquiry

Please read our FAQ’s followed by submitting your inquiry via our online questionnaire. Your answers will give our team enough baseline information to determine whether or not Fort Treehouse Co. is a good fit for your project.

If your project is a good fit we will schedule a call to discuss things like timeline and budget, at the end of the call we will arrange a site visit. Before the site visit we will also conduct a preliminary investigation of zoning and permitting regulations in your municipality so we have a general idea moving forward of what we will be working with.

Site Visit

During our site visit we will discuss the vision you have for your treehouse and take a look at your preferred location and the trees in that area. We will gather all applicable information and measurements regarding your trees and property as well as design related requests (such as style, utilities, seasonality, etc.).

We will also request that you send with us a land survey of your property and any applicable zoning or municipal bylaws you may be aware of.

Conceptual Design

A first draft design that includes: proposed floor plan, platform and elevations as well as a rough estimate and timeline.

Advanced Tree Assessment and final site survey

We work with an ISA Certified Arborist to conduct a ground-based and aerial visual assessment of selected trees. Sonic tomography assessments are done as required to determine the extent of internal decay. Data is collected for our engineer, as requested.

Official Drawings, Permits and Approval (as needed)

Once the design is finalized we’ll work with a consulting engineer and architect (if necessary) to draft official plans in preparation for permits and approval (as needed).

Construction

We manage every aspect of your build from start to finish. While Cam, one of our founders and treehouse construction extraordinaire, takes the lead on all our builds, we also work with a favourable team of professional sub-contractors to get things done as efficiently as possible. Anyone we work with outside of our company has been previously vetted for quality and professionalism by us or close contacts of ours in the industry.

If you’re interested in building a custom treehouse please fill out this submission form so we are better able to understand the scope and early details of your project.
